Well it has been quite some time since my last post but my absence has not been due to laziness! I have been been incredibly busy traveling, working, and most importantly bicycling! I'll start with my trip to Lake Powell, Utah, some of the perks that come with working for Aspen Ski Co. far exceed what you would expect! Throughout the season we rented out lockers to guests and all the money we took in from that our store manager saved along with any large tips that the shop received as a whole, this added up mush faster then I expected! With the money from this season they were able to rent a 3 bedroom house boat, purchase all the food, and purchase all the beverages you could imagine (and I promise you that ski bums out west are thirstier than a cactus). It was an amazing trip, I don't know if I have been to a place more intricately carved by nature, it was like walking through a painting when we finally started in our way. We camped out for 3 days and played in the deserts sun, hiked around in some quick sand haha, watched the sun rise and set over the canyon walls and got burned to a crisp! I have to say it was a vacation that I was looking forward too and I was glad to be out there with some really awesome co-workers, Daelyn, Jeri, Stephen, Willy, Mike, Jackson, Nate, and Matt thank you for an awesome season! I will see you all again next year. Once I got back into Aspen it was time to head out of Dodge and hit the dusty trail yet again!
I headed out to Denver the morning of April 18th I believe. Originally the plan was me and my buddy Stephen were going to snag a ride with Jeri who was driving back to her hometown which was just outside of Denver, well haha, I had a feeling that since it was the last night in Aspen before we all split for the summer that Jeri and Stephen might not be in great shape the next morning so I figured at least I shouldn't partake to heavily in the festivities haha. It turned out to be a very wise decision, so 10am rolls around and I'm wide awake ready to go and I get a phone call from Jeri to tell me she needs me to drive and we need to leave a half hour later hahaha. So long story short we ended up in Denver at Stephens brothers hotel and we ran into a few girls who were there from Philly to go see the Slightly Stoopid concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, which just happened to be where Stephen and his brother were headed. We hung out with them for a while, now I am terrible at remembering names but I told myself I had to remember these girls names because I always forget, and I remembered them the whole trip but now I can only remember Sarah ( because we clicked and I still talk to her), Nicki ( because she said she was a vet and she was hilarious), and Kelly ( because she fell off a horse hahahaha) but I know there was one other girl and I just can't remember her name! I remember that she reminded me of someone I knew when I was younger but I couldn't ever figure out who!
After hanging around Denver and wandering the city with an old but missed friend, Emily, I jumped on a train and headed off to New York to start a whole new chapter!!!!!
I got back into New York on the 22nd had a chance to spend a little time with one of my best buddies, Nick, then headed over to see my folks and treat them to dinner at a little German restaurant in Canandaigua, NY the Rheinbleck. Then on the morning of the 23rd I was on the road yet again, this time I was south bound on my way to the 26th annual Merlefest in Wilkesboro, NC! I was officially on the road as Air Chair Tuck, being comfy and hanging out was the name of my game! I had some wonderful opportunities to learn a few things when it came to selling Air Chairs at festivals , how to close a deal as well as all you could imagine about the chairs themselves ( fun fact : the air chair, contrary to popular belief, does NOT actually float on air you will need to attach it to a secure branch or ceiling joist). I went to see Gov't Mule play, it will still go down as one of the best live performances I have seen to date! Warren Haynes tells stories with his guitar and no one, in my opinion, can do it the same way. I also got to check out The Charlie Daniels Band, Donna the Buffalo, Mountain Heart, and The Avett Brothers all of whom were phenomenal groups. At night the guys I was working with, Joe, Scott, and I would hang out with a few of other vendors and I had the privilege to listen in on their stories and tales from their travels, many of which were about the Dead Tour and how they got their starts on Shakedown St. There was one gentleman in particular who interested me the most, Barry, he told me some incredible stories of his days of Woodstock, communes, and scandal. You know Barry as the hammock guy at Grassroots Festival in Trumansburg, NY, he is always on the same corner by the store every year, if you make your way over to Barry's Hammocks tell him Air Chair Tuck says howdy and that the story of porkinhand lives on hahah. Well really that brings me pretty close to the current day, I've been able to scoot around and see a lot of people I've missed, and still have many to see! I will be on the road a lot this summer working for Air Chair so look out for me at a festival near you! I would like to end this with a huge thank you to Chuck and Annie from San Giorgio's in Crystal Beach as well as Joe and Quitta Sick you have helped me out so much this past month and I am glad to be apart of the crew! In between travels you can find me over at the Culture Shack in Canandaigua, NY and out cruising around on my bikes! Get out and enjoy life, take some risks and just hang out!

What an amazing season!
What a beautiful couple of weeks, I had the opportunity to take my splitboard up Buttermilk, under the full moon!!! It wasn't to cold, not to many clouds and so many people! There was such a huge party at the top of the mountain, at least 100 people had hiked up and brought a ton of booze haha. It was quite the sight, at the very top you could see whole valley!! I had some incredible days of riding in and even got a chance to enter a competition. I didn't do to well in the competition but I was able to learn a new little trick, switch frontside 360 onto a single bar handrail!!! I broke a board and had to buy a new one about 45min before the competition and still at least landed all my tricks! Then it was back to work for this guy, 3 full days, one day I worked 2 hrs and then went riding and the last day I got out an hour early! I've spent a few wonderful hours laying in my hammock and playing frisbee in the sun, oh and I also picked up a summer job!! This summer, I am proud to say, I will be working for Air Chair. I will be selling Air Chairs all over the place at festivals:)!?!? The purpose of this quick summary is to give you an idea of what can happen if you take a chance. Take a dream you have had as long as you can remember and make it a reality! Go somewhere that makes you happy!
Coming to Colorado has been one of the best decisions I have made, it has allowed me to realize to be happy and to live the life I want. I started this whole thing with close to nothing and have improved my life ten fold!! I will be spending this summer enjoying myself and setting aside all that I can so that I am able to make it back to Aspen for another season of bliss. Then who knows where I'll go, there is a lot to see in the world so I have to get started now:)

For my Friends
Every year as a new season approaches, I feel as though a chapter of my life is coming to a close. Though it doesn't make me sad it allows me to look forward to a whole new chapter. A chapter filled with many new friends, experiences I could not even begin to predict, and another chance to begin a whole new story for myself. I always reflect back on my past and though there are many painful parts, their are so many wonderful memories that stand out among the rest. I have had amazing opportunities in my life but those wouldn't be as memorable without the people who helped me get there or the people I was lucky enough to share them with. I have traveled Europe once with my best friends in high school, and again with three of the coolest ladies I know. I have cruised the Caribbean with one of my best friends (even though we were both injured haha), I have lived through the ups, the downs and come out with a smile because of the people who were there through it all. I have so much more to do and much to share with every new friend I meet. I look forward, with every ounce of joy, anticipation, and wonder to what is next in life for Tucker Hawkins. I don't need to individually thank all of you who have been there for me because you all have the memories that will stay with the both of us until the end of time. The world is a small place and the short stories we all share will only continue to be written......

Great split trip from Snowmass mountain along the backside toButtermilk mountain!!
Holy hell, what an awesome day to go out on a split hike. The sky was a little grey but it was perfect because of how warm it was, the snow was icy but the views alone were worth every step. Today was my first lengthy splitboard trip into the backcountry, I went along with my friend Matt who showed me a few of the ropes to being comfortable on a long hike. In total the hike only took about 4 hours but it was all up, down, slick, and crunchy all over. True to its nature my splitboard did a wonderful job, kept me up above the deep crunchy snow and stuck right to the snow with my new Viole Split Decision climbing skins! I can not wait until my next trip coming up next week!! The full moon is just around the corner and I absolutely will be skinning up either Buttermilk or Aspen mountain or possibly both under the moon light. Every chance I get I will be going out on trips to see what this awesome place has to offer me in the backcountry:)

A little delayed but here is some good shots!
Well I haven't had any Internet in about a week so I finally made a trip to library to update a little on here. Last week I had 2 days off and wow what a great couple of days, I got to ride open to close both days and it was beautiful out both days!! The second day of riding I decided to take the splitboard out for a test run and it is now one of my favorite boards to ride. Even with it split I feel confident and stable even at fast speeds, it will handle any kind of jump I throw at it, which also includes a medium backwoods booter. My APO splitboard will handle any kind of terrain with a breeze, I also recently received my climbing skins which I will be putting to the test this upcoming week hopefully. I don't have much more to say that these photos can't say themselves! Next week I have a bit of time off so I will be out taking full advantage of the upcoming snow on my splitboard. I will make sure to get some great shots and also I will be deciding where to go next pretty soon since the winter season will be over with in late April out in Colorado, once I know where I will, it will be time to start a new chapter of this wild book......

Stop telling yourself " I can't "
So many people I have talked with about their dreams and desires always follow them up with " I can't", why is that? Many of you that tell me about what you would like to do with your life merely sit back and watch life as it passes by, you continue to spend your money of things that only hold you back, you become complacent with how your life is and don't see any way or reason to try to improve it. I understand that the "normal" life for some is the path they want but for some of you all you have to tell me is how much you hate it where you are and how you wish to change it. I have made this offer to many of you and still no one has taken me up on it, if any of my friends need or just want to get away for a while and see what else the world has instore I will help everyway I can. You are the one that needs to come to me though, I will help you with finding a place to stay, food to eat, or a job if you plan to stay. I just don't believe that if you are somewhere that makes you unhappy as soon as you wake up is somewhere you should be and I would feel guilt aout not assisting you with a change. The point of this is to say don't just settle for what you have, strive and earn what you want.

My First Splitboard Build!
Well I decided since a splitboard costs between $400-$1000 to buy, I am going to build my own splitboard! Since I really have no experience doing this I figured I'd share the whole process with you and hopefully if it works maybe it will assist someone in building their very own splitboard!!!
1.) You will need to find the perfect board to use as your splitboard, make sure it is a board that you don't mind looking at as well as riding. I would recommend going to a used sports store and looking at what they have to offer, though a board may be used does not mean it doesn't have life left in it (I like to do things as inexpensively as possible as well and used sports stores help a lot). You want a board that is roughly the same size as what you would ride normally, maybe a little bigger if you will be in the backcountry quite a bit, it must have a solid wood core tip to tail, and it must have the standard 4 hole binding mount. You may be able to use the Burton 3 hole but I wouldn't recommend it.

| Make sure the bindings are exactly where you will want them because once you install the Voile Split Kit you will not be able to readjust them. |
![]() |
| Make sure you tape where the bindings will go before you put the center strip on, you will take the center tape off before the binding placements |
![]() |
| Use the yard stick to double check that the tape is in the dead center of the board |
![]() |
| You don't need to file through the tip and tail to much just enough to get all the way through the edge, you do this to avoid ripping the edge out with the saw |
![]() |
| You won't need to apply the epoxy, if that's what you use, very thick just enough to lightly cover the whole side wall. You don't want any raw wood exposed |
![]() |
| Allow the epoxy/polyurethane to dry for at least 24hrs so that it hardens completely and you are able to sand it down to a smooth flat surface |
![]() |
| Although my line may not be quite perfect you still need to make sure the dotted line on the sticker is straight all the way through your cut, you want the hooks to hold the board together tightly |
![]() |
| Place the hooks on the stickers just to make sure they are placed correctly, they should fit right together like a puzzle piece |
![]() |
| Make sure you tighten down all of your hardware, you don't want any screws coming loose when you take your board out for a maiden voyage |
![]() |
| Take away as little of the base as you can, you want as much of the original base intact, Clean up the p-tex and wood that come up when you drill on the base |
![]() |
| Put everything together and double check that it all fits together perfectly and snug. You want everything to be a tight fit not loose spots |
![]() |
| Fill in he holes as best you can, make sure there are no low spots even if its raised you can sand it back to flush |
![]() |
| Enjoy the fruits of your labor, it isn't easy to build a splitboard so be proud when your finished and for those still wondering how it works, stayed tuned I'll post some shots of it in action soon!! |
